Scuba Tank FAQs
Where are the best places to scuba dive?
Good question, not such an easy answer because there are so many great locales that have well established diving as well as countless unexplored territories. The best places are tropical areas with warm clear water and plenty of life, but this doesn’t really narrow anything down does it? If you can make it to Belize, check out the Blue Hole, a favored spot of Jacques Cousteau. Thailand has some exotic species, the great barrier reef in Australia is the biggest reef in the world, Hawaii is great, Malaysia, Micronesia, Boracay, and many other places are incredible, but if you globe hop it like a star, something more local might be in order.
Where are the best underwater hotels?
In Key Largo Florida you can dive down 30 feet to Jules Verne’s Undersea Lodge. Its small and cozy and very beautiful. The Utter Inn in Sweden allows patrons to stay a scant 3 meters underwater but still offers a cozy stay. The Hydropolis in Dubai will allow for some spectacular underwater views of the Persian Gulf, if you can afford it. The Poseidon in Fiji will give guest unobstructed views of the ocean through completely clear bubbles that are quite roomy and expansive. You can rent the entire complex for 3 million dollars for a weekend, or 3,000 a night for a single room.
What is the lowest depth I can scuba dive?
Recreational divers can safely dive to 130 feet under sea level but there are still a number of risks involved at that depth and dive times should be short at that depth. Most divers stay under 80 feet of water with no problems. With special breathing gases divers can go as low as 400 feet, and with high tech rebreathers and specialized breathing mixtures a risky diver could get as low as 700 feet. Anything lower than that and you may compress yourself, I recommend a submarine.
