Scuba Snorkel
A scuba snorkel is a invaluable piece of equipment for scuba divers even though in the best circumstances they won’t need to use it. They become incredibly useful when the diver gets themselves into situations they shouldn’t be in, most notably stranded at sea without air. In that situation it is incredibly difficult and dangerous to keep their head out of the water to breathe.
The scuba snorkel is just like a regular one and allows the diver to keep their head underwater and still breathe which greatly reduces the amount of energy they desperately need to stay warm or swim to shore. Being stranded and having to swim back to shore is a dangerous situation but can be accomplished by using the snorkel.
A scuba snorkel is simply a lightweight, shatter resistant tube roughly the same diameter as the diver’s air pipe that ends in a mouthpiece. Some versions have a special top opening that doesn’t allow any water to enter which is incredibly useful in rougher waters. Anyone who has snorkeled knows what it is like to get a mouthful of salt water. For those who haven’t, it’s not good.
