Scuba Gear
Scuba gear has been evolving since Mankind decided to venture underwater to fish, explore, rescue and search. At first it was simple hollow reeds used as a snorkel but the ingenuity of man has created some interesting and useful underwater devices over the years.
Today’s scuba gear is completely self contained, as the acronym Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus implies, but equipment in the past has been largely controlled from boats operating on the surface. Air was piped down to diving bells and then into diving helmets and suits so exploration was limited to the length of the line, or how far away the diver could swim from the bell and back, not very far in other words.
The next evolution of scuba gear is sure to get lighter, less obstructive, easier to use as well as more comfortable. Diving masks are the first device that is becoming more futuristic and comfortable with complete helmets that lose the regulator and display pertinent dive information on the inside surface for a heads up display. Don’t be surprised when fins become motorized, and tanks are lost because of a special device that can convert water into oxygen and hydrogen.
