Scuba Tank, Mask, and Equipment

This is the watery planet and although there appears to be a lot of action going on above the surface, the great majority is happening just out of view under gallons upon gallons of water. Everything evolved in the water, some went to land, some of those went back to the water to become dolphins and whales, but most have stayed fully immersed for their entire existence. Considering the amount of biodiversity underwater it is amazing that anyone prefers the land and many mammals still don’t. Luckily for some exceptionally talented hominids there are ways of exploring that untamed abyss without losing any evolutionary traits such as the ability to breath air.
It’s called SCUBA diving and although there are ways of bringing other animals underwater it is strictly for humans. All that is needed is some specialized scuba diving gear. In case you are unsure, SCUBA is an acronym for self contained underwater breathing apparatus. Feel smart? You should.
Scuba wear is basically surf wear, just add some wet suits, fins, goggles and a tank. Scuba gear consists of a scuba tank or canister that is filled with air or other combinations of gasses, pure oxygen is never used and could be fatal, a scuba mask, scuba fins, as well as a regulator. A wet suit is useful anywhere the water is not warm enough, so pretty much everywhere but tropical environments where the diver won’t stray below 30 feet. It gets colder and colder the deeper anyone dives, so it is better to be prepared and warm.
There are countless places to explore underwater from reefs, coves, shipwrecks to underwater towns and cities. Most people can learn how to dive in a couple of days. In less than a week they can be out exploring underwater grottoes, forgotten shipwrecks, and sunken treasures. They won’t be able to go too deep at first, but most of the life lies just below the surface. The deeper the go the more occasional an encounter will be, although it will often be with something much larger and more dangerous than a cuddle fish.
Scuba accessories such as dive computers can make the trip easier. A lot of information has to be considered while diving from depth, amount of oxygen, how hard the divers are working, the amount of time spent at certain depths and a myriad of other factors that impact the diver’s trip. There is a fine line between a safe dive and a dangerous one, so knowledge and experience pay off, but proper equipment is absolutely essential as well. Scuba equipment must be regularly checked for reliability and proper functioning. Even a small leak can be deadly if it goes unnoticed.
The appeal of scuba diving cross cultural boundaries as well as time but there have been a lot of improvements since diving bells and the even more ancient reed snorkels. It is getting easier every day to venture underwater for longer and longer periods of time with less restrictions and more comfort. There are underwater hotels that can only be accessed by diving down to them but offer all the comforts of home only the animals flying past the windows aren’t birds but fish.
